The 6th Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference 2015 under the theme "Jamaica and the Diaspora: Linking for Growth and Prosperity" promises to be an exhilarating, focused and not to be missed event.
The Conference, convened by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, is the global forum that connects Jamaicans from all over the world with Jamaicans in the home country every two years. The event seeks to strengthen existing linkages and networks, and to build alliances for Jamaica's development and standing in the world.
Efforts to rebrand and refocus the 2013 staging, delivered huge dividends. Over 1500 persons attended the Conference which featured a capacity Marketplace Expo, fast tracked Government services, targeted discussions, stimulating hospitality and other events and concluded with an enriching Diaspora Day of Service programme. Over 200 business meetings were facilitated between Diaspora investors and local businesses.
One of the innovations after Conference 2013 was the establishment of an Implementation Council. We are pleased to inform you that this Council in collaboration with Government Ministries and Agencies, individuals and interest groups in the Diaspora, the Private Sector and the International Community and Development Partners have taken concrete actions on the major recommendations from that Conference. A full report on these and the major advances that have now been made with the Jamaica Diaspora Policy will be given in June.
This year's event will continue to place special focus on Trade and Investment. It will also seek to explore specific opportunities for the Diaspora, to expand their business interest in Jamaica through increased trade and investment. Participants will also engage in discussions about ways to expand the Diaspora's contribution to Health and Education in Jamaica, both as individuals and organized groups. Key emphasis is being placed on engaging with young people of Jamaican descent in an effort to nurture their involvement in the country's affairs and make possible, tangible connections with other young people here in Jamaica.
This 6th Biennial Conference remains focused on Business, Trade and Investment, Philanthropy, Social Investment and Diaspora Diplomacy and Youth Engagement.
Conference 2015 will be thrilling, Enterprising, Educational, and Energising! Join Us!
